Anti-Aging Cosmetic Surgeries for Men

Looking youthful, attractive and energetic is important to men. While many more women than men seek plastic surgery, it is becoming more and more common for men to consider cosmetic treatments. A youthful appearance can help men feel more confident in social interactions and can be beneficial when striving to stay competitive in many professional positions. Here are some of the top cosmetic surgeries used by men to look younger and feel more confident in their appearance.

Eyelid Lifts or Blepharoplasty

When the eyelid skin and tissue sags, it can not only make you look older, it also can make the eyes look tired or sad. Blepharoplasty or an eyelid lift can remove excess skin or fat and tighten the eyelids for a more youthful appearance. This procedure can reduce hooded, drooping upper eyelids or bags under the eyes, making men look more energetic.

Brow Lift Surgery

Many men have a furrowed brow that belies their age and can make them look grumpy even when they are in a pleasant mood. A brow lift can smooth away the horizontal forehead lines and frown lines between the eyebrows while lifting the skin and tissue on the brow for a youthful look.

Facelift

Heavy jowls and sagging tissue or skin under the chin is a tell-tale sign of aging. More than 11,000 men underwent facelift surgery in 2017 to combat drooping skin and tissue on the lower face and neck. A deep plane facelift can help redefine the jawline, reduce neck skin sagging and raise the jowls to help the face appear ten or more years younger.

All men deserve to feel confident when they look in the mirror at any age. If you want to look younger, contact an experienced facial plastic surgeon to discuss male cosmetic surgery options.

Jaw Feminization with Masseter Reduction

When the jawline is wide and square, is can have a masculine impact on the face. This is not always desirable, especially for women. Enlargement of the masseter muscles, the main muscles responsible for jaw movement that are on the outside of the cheek and jaw, can create a wider jaw. This can occur for a variety of reasons, including excessive jaw clenching, teeth grinding, gum chewing and other jaw movements. There are cosmetic masseter reduction procedures that can reshape the jaw for a more feminine appearance.

Non-Surgical Masseter Treatment

Excessive contraction of the masseter muscles can cause them to become enlarged. One effective treatment to reduce the size is using a neuromodulator to relax the muscle. Botox or Dysport injections can help limit jaw clenching and teeth grinding, allowing the masseter muscles to diminish over time. In many cases, the neuromodulator injections can effectively reduce the size of the masseter muscles and ongoing injections are not required.

Surgical Masseter Reduction

For those who want to under jaw feminization to soften a square jawline, surgical procedures can be used to reshape the face. Incisions inside the mouth can be used to access the masseter muscle and jaw bone. Trimming the muscles and bone can slim the jawline, creating a lower face that is more oval or heart-shaped instead of square. Since the incisions are inside the mouth, there are no scars for discrete alteration of the jaw shape.

If you wish you could slim the wideness of your jaw, masseter reduction may be right for you. Contact a facial plastic surgeon that offers surgical and non-surgical jaw feminization to learn more about your options to reshape your face.

Ear Shaping for Newborn Infants

Did you know that many infants are born with misshaped outer ears? About 30% or more of infants have some type of deformity of the ear when they are born. Most of time these deformities are minor and do not affect the hearing of the child. However, misshapen ears can be a source of embarrassment as they grow older and impact their self-esteem. In many cases, outer ear deformities can be fixed without surgery if reshaping is completed shortly after birth.

EarWell Infant Ear Correction

In the weeks after a baby is born, estrogen levels are higher in the body. This can create a flexibility in cartilage that makes it easier to reform. The patented EarWell™ Infant Ear Correction System is an option used by some plastic surgeons to correct infant ear defects during the first few weeks after birth, reforming the ear cartilage to a more pleasing shape.

The EarWell system is non-invasive and not painful for the infant. The system uses a mold that fits over the ear. While estrogen levels are still high, the cartilage is pliable and can be reshaped using the mold for a few weeks. This simple procedure can create uniform ears and help reduce the need for otoplasty or ear surgery later in life. While it is effective, it can only be used in these critical first few weeks after birth when the ear cartilage can still be altered easily without surgery.

If you have a child born with an outer ear defect, contact a plastic surgeon that offers the EarWell™ Infant Ear Correction System. It could minimize the ear deformity without the need for plastic surgery.

Reversing the Effects of Pregnancy

Motherhood comes with many joys and the miracle of birth is an incredible experience. However, many women wish that the price of motherhood did not include the changes to their body. Pregnancy can take its toll, especially for women that have had multiple pregnancies. Weight gain and stretched skin can alter the look of the breasts and abdomen, but there are plastic surgery options to reverse many of the effects of pregnancy.

Body Makeovers for Moms

During pregnancy, many women gain 20-30 pounds or more, mostly in their stomach and breasts. This enlargement can permanently change the elasticity of the skin and tissues, even if any excess weight is lost after pregnancy. The stomach may not be as flat or taut as it once was and breasts may sag or change size. Even exercise may not reverse the effects, which is why some women choose to get a body makeover through plastic surgery. This makeover can include:

  • Liposuction to remove excess fat from tummy, hips and thighs
  • A tummy tuck to tighten the abdomen
  • Breast reduction or enhancement
  • Breast lift

Each woman is different and may desire a different combination of procedures to reverse the effects of pregnancy. While it may not be possible to completely revert the body to its pre-pregnancy form, plastic surgery procedures can restore a flatter stomach and perkier breasts.

Motherhood does not mean you need to give up feeling attractive and sexy in your own body. If you are self-conscious of changes caused by pregnancy, consider getting a body makeover to reverse many of the effects of pregnancy. You deserve to feel confident and look your best – consult an experienced plastic surgeon to find out the best option to give you back the body you love.

Is Facial Plastic Surgery Right for Me?

Making the decision to have facial plastic surgery is very personal and complex. While many people may have an aspect of their face they are unhappy with or may be disappointed with the affect of aging, plastic surgery is not a procedure to undergo on a whim. While there are many benefits, it is important to take the time to consider whether plastic surgery is the best option for you.

The first question to ask yourself is what you hope to achieve with plastic surgery. Someone who has a crooked nose or sagging skin may be unhappy with the way they look, but will changing the feature give them the satisfaction they desire? For many people, the answer is yes. They feel more confident and that alone is worth the surgery. If having facial plastic surgery will help you be happier with yourself, improving your personal and professional interactions by more confidence, it can be worth the effort.

However, some people hope that changing an aspect of their face will please someone else. While that may or may not be true, it is important to want plastic surgery for yourself, not just for someone else. You will be the one that will need to undergo the surgery and recovery, not someone else. Make sure it is what you desire, whether or not another person will enjoy the results.

Before deciding to have facial plastic surgery, talk about all the risks and options with your plastic surgeon. Your surgeon can help you find the best procedure to give you the look you desire – in some cases, there may be non-surgical options that you can try before undergoing a permanent change to your face. Take the time to consider all the benefits and risks; then make the choice that is right for you in the long run.

Best Facial Procedures for Anti-Aging

Times does not stop, and the years of your life eventually are evident on your face. Daily care and protection for your skin can help slow the aging process, but even with a meticulous skincare routine, lines, wrinkles and sagging will occur. When these changes become more and more pronounced, you may begin looking at cosmetic treatments to slow the process of aging. Here some of the best surgical and non-surgical procedures for anti-aging which are available at many plastic surgery clinics and med spas.

Botox, Dysport or Xeomin Injections

One of the first predominant clues of your age may be the frown lines that appear on your brow or the lines by your eyes. Botox and similar other injections like Dysport and Xeomin can erase these deep frown lines and crow’s feet temporarily with a quick visit to your plastic surgeon.

Dermal Fillers

Skin loses volume with age and the elasticity of the skin wanes. Dermal fillers can replace lost volume in the skin, restoring a more youthful appearance. Dermal injections can diminish lines and wrinkles, as well as restore fullness to lips, cheeks and temples. Some also help improve collagen production for better elasticity.

Surgical Lifts

Many different types of surgical lifts can turn back the hands of time for facial rejuvenation. Complete facelifts, neck lifts, brow lifts, eye lifts and cheek lifts can all remove excess skin and elevate skin and tissue. This can fight the effects of gravity, helping your face and neck look many years younger.

Aging can be slowed, and youthfulness can be restored through facial procedures completed by a plastic surgeon. Find out more about these top cosmetic treatments by scheduling a consultation with your local facial plastic surgeon.

Top 5 Plastic Surgeries for Men

Looking good and feeling confident is not only desired by women; men also care about their appearance and want to look their best at any age. Plastic surgery was once mostly pursued by women, but men are closing the gap in recent years. Whether they want to look younger or just want to change a natural feature of their face, more and more men are seeking plastic surgery. Here are the top five plastic surgeries performed on men in 2017 according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons:

Rhinoplasty

Number one on the list, and the most popular male cosmetic surgery for decades, is nose shaping or rhinoplasty. There were 53,393 rhinoplasty surgeries performed on men in the U.S. in 2017, almost a quarter of the total number.

Blepharoplasty

Eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty was second on the list for men in 2017, with 32,281 surgeries reported. This accounted for 15% of the total number of eyelid surgeries performed.

Liposuction

Men had 28,180 liposuctions performed in the U.S.; this can include liposuction on the body for shaping or facial/neck fat reduction.

Gynecomastia

Breast reduction surgery or gynecomastia was fourth in popularity with 26,839 surgeries performed on men in the U.S.

Hair Transplantation

Surprisingly, hair transplantation was fifth on the list for cosmetic surgeries for men, with 14,443 procedures performed. However, men accounted for 72% of all hair transplantation surgeries in 2017.

Other plastic surgeries that were high on the list included facelifts, ear surgery and dermabrasion. Men also received over 1.3 minimally-invasive cosmetic procedures in 2017, up 29% over the numbers reported in 2000.

Male cosmetic procedures and plastic surgeries are becoming more popular as men realize the benefits changing their appearance can have on their confidence and self-esteem. If you are considering male plastic surgery, find an experienced plastic surgeon and schedule a consultation to discuss the options available.

Can Xanthelasma Be Corrected Through Plastic Surgery?

The eyes are such an important feature to the face and for the senses – when a growth detracts from their beauty or function, it can be devastating. Xanthelasma is a condition that can cause fat growths around the eye, even impacting vision as well as the aesthetic appearance of the eye. For many with this condition, plastic surgery can be an option to restore vision and improve appearance for those with xanthelasma.

What Causes Xanthelasma?

The causes of xanthelasma can vary from health conditions to genetics. This fatty bump around the eye is usually yellow in color, usually in or around the corners. It is a build-up of cholesterol under the skin and is more common in those of Mediterranean or Asian descent. Those with liver or heart problems are also more susceptible to this condition. While is may be an aesthetic concern and can impact the vision, it can also be a sign of more serious health issues that should be addressed with a primary physician.

Removal of Xanthelasma

If medical treatment is already being addressed for the cause of xanthelasma, there are options to remove the growth for cosmetic and vision concerns. A plastic surgeon with experience in delicate facial surgery can remove the pocket of fat and discoloration to improve the appearance and function of the eyes. This can help improve the self-confidence of the patient and their appearance while they address any possible health concerns linked to the condition.

If you have xanthelasma and want to explore options for removing the growths, contact a qualified plastic surgeon that offers xanthelasma removal. But it is also important to contact your primary physician to discuss possible causes of these growths that may be impacting your overall health.

Why Do I Have Dark Circles Under My Eyes?

Everyone knows that if you do not get enough rest, dark circles under your eyes can let the world know you are tired. This occurs in the young and old, which is why we equate dark circles with the need for rest. However, dark circles are more common as you get older and may have nothing to do with getting enough sleep.

Lack of hydration is often the reason dark circles appear when you are tired. Your body balances your hydration when you sleep, and lack of sleep can pull water from beneath the skin under your eyes, allowing the dark blood vessels underneath to show and cause dark circles. However, not all dark circles are caused by coloring, but can be a shadow from bags under the eye.

Aging and Dark Circles

As you get older, it is common to lose fat under the skin in the face. Bone and other facial tissues can also diminish, causing hollows under the eye. This can cause a darkening under the eyes that make you look “old and tired” even if you feel young and energetic. Bags under the eyes also can occur as you get older as the skin, tissue and fat fall due to gravity and a loss of elastin in the skin. Bags can create shadows under the eyes, making you tired.

Treatments for Dark Circles

There are some creams that can help hydrate the skin or lighten darker skin, helping reduce the appearance of dark circles. Other non-surgical options include using dermal fillers to plump under the eyes to reduce bags, shadows and hollows that cause dark circles. For permanent removal of dark circles, eyelifts, cheek lifts and implants in the upper cheek can be used. Consult a plastic surgeon that specializes in oculoplastic surgery to learn more about surgical and non-surgical options for removing dark circles.

Are Your Hands Showing your True Age?

When most people think of cosmetic treatments for aging, their mind automatically goes to facial procedures. While facial anti-aging procedures are the most popular, this is not the only area of your body that can tell a person your age. Hands are another common indicator of age – they often lose fat tissue, becoming skeletal in appearance. They are also prone to sun or age spots that make the skin look older. If you have been carefully managing the aging process on your face, but ignoring your hands, they could be belying your true age.

Hand rejuvenation procedures to fight the signs of aging are becoming more popular. You use your hands for everything and they are almost as noticeable as your face. Plus, they are exposed to the sun, water, chemicals and many other aging factors over the years. A rejuvenation procedure can shave years off the appearance of your hands to help them match the age of the rest of your face and body.

Hand rejuvenation usually has two elements: tissue filling and skin treatments. To reduce the skeletal appearance of enhanced veins, tendons and bones in the hands, fat transfers or dermal fillers can be used. Just like on the face, this plumps the skin to a more youthful appearance. For the skin, laser treatments or fading creams can be used to reduce the appearance of sun or age spots. Together, these procedures can make hands look many years younger.

If your hands look older, or just tell the world your true age, talk to a plastic surgeon who offers hand rejuvenation treatments. Most of these treatments are quick and require little or no downtime while giving you much younger appearing hands.
