Looking good and feeling confident is not only desired by women; men also care about their appearance and want to look their best at any age. Plastic surgery was once mostly pursued by women, but men are closing the gap in recent years. Whether they want to look younger or just want to change a natural feature of their face, more and more men are seeking plastic surgery. Here are the top five plastic surgeries performed on men in 2017 according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons:
Rhinoplasty
Number one on the list, and the most popular male cosmetic surgery for decades, is nose shaping or rhinoplasty. There were 53,393 rhinoplasty surgeries performed on men in the U.S. in 2017, almost a quarter of the total number.
Blepharoplasty
Eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty was second on the list for men in 2017, with 32,281 surgeries reported. This accounted for 15% of the total number of eyelid surgeries performed.
Liposuction
Men had 28,180 liposuctions performed in the U.S.; this can include liposuction on the body for shaping or facial/neck fat reduction.
Gynecomastia
Breast reduction surgery or gynecomastia was fourth in popularity with 26,839 surgeries performed on men in the U.S.
Hair Transplantation
Surprisingly, hair transplantation was fifth on the list for cosmetic surgeries for men, with 14,443 procedures performed. However, men accounted for 72% of all hair transplantation surgeries in 2017.
Other plastic surgeries that were high on the list included facelifts, ear surgery and dermabrasion. Men also received over 1.3 minimally-invasive cosmetic procedures in 2017, up 29% over the numbers reported in 2000.
