5 Benefits of Breast Augmentation

When you look in the mirror, do you wish you had more curves to fill out your chest area? Not everyone is born with the genetics for full, sexy breasts. If you have wondered whether a breast augmentation procedure could be right for you, consider these five benefits that many women enjoy when they finally get the breasts they desire.

  1. Clothes fit better. A scooped or v-neck shirt or dress is much more flattering when they highlight full breasts. Breast augmentation has helped many women fill out their clothes like never before, giving them more choices in their wardrobe.
  2. A balanced figure. Some women have plenty of curves below the waist, but nothing to balance them on top. Enlarging the breasts can create the balanced hourglass figure that many women have desired.
  3. Feel sexy. Sexy is in the eye of the beholder but feeling sexy is a state of mind. If having fuller breasts makes you feel sexy, that feeling is transparent to others.
  4. More confidence. When you feel good about the way you look, it helps improve your confidence in all aspects of your life.
  5. Look younger, more vivacious. For some older women, a breast augmentation can help them regain the perky, full breasts of their youth, making them look and feel younger.

Deciding to have breast augmentation is a very personal decision. You need to decide whether the benefits you will enjoy are worth the investment in your appearance. If you determine you want to seek an augmentation, find an experienced plastic surgeon that has an excellent reputation for breast enlargements to ensure you get the results you desire.

Top 5 Reconstructive Plastic Surgeries

Plastic surgeons are not just for facelifts and liposuction. Their skills can be used for vital reconstruction due to deformities, trauma, cancer and other maladies. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons compiles a statistic report each year on the top procedures completed in the field, including the top reconstructive plastic surgeries. Here the top five surgeries completed in 2016 for patients needing reconstructive work.

  1. Tumor removal. By far, removing tumors is the most frequently performed reconstructive surgery. This includes skin cancer tumors and many other types of benign and malignant tumors on the body, with over 4.4 million plastic surgery procedures completed in 2016.
  2. Laceration repair. Carefully repairing lacerations (not facial) accounted for 253,361 reconstructive plastic surgeries. Deep lacerations require the experience of a plastic surgeon to repair the tissue and reduce deformation.
  3. Maxillofacial surgery. 202,688 surgeries were performed to repair head, jaw or face maladies. Reconstructing broken facial bones due to trauma and correcting birth defects on the face/head fall into this category.
  4. Scar revision. Any laceration, burn or trauma to the skin can leave a scar, some that can be disfiguring. 181,190 reconstructive surgeries were completed for scar revision in 2016.
  5. Hand surgery. The hands are very complex and can need the expertise of a plastic surgeon when reconstruction is necessary. 135,250 plastic surgeries were performed in 2016 for hand reconstruction.

If you or a family member are in need on reconstructive surgery, choose a plastic surgeon that specializes in this field for the best results. For facial issues, you will want a facial plastic surgeon that has extensive experience in reconstructive surgery to ensure the procedure is performed exceptionally.

Does Constant Tearing Require Surgery?

If you have eyes that constantly are tearing, there could be something wrong in the composition of your eyes. There are several reasons for constant watering of the eyes in adulthood, some that can be treated with non-invasive methods and others that may require surgery. Here are some eye issues that may require surgery to stop tearing.

Malposition of the Eyelid

Blinking is vital to proper tearing in the eye. If the eyelids are malformed or impacted by trauma, the malposition can cause issues with excessive tearing. Eyelid plastic surgery to reposition for correct blinking ability can be used to treat excess tearing.

Obstruction of the Nasolacrimal Duct

Some older adults obtain an obstruction in the nasolacrimal duct, tearing that is persistent in one eye. This can be treated by performing a dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR). This can be done with an external incision on the outside of the nose. The goal is to create a new pathway for tears into the nasal passage, stopping constant tearing in the affected eye. Stents may be needed to help ensure the new pathway for the tears, usually left in for up to six months.

There are other causes of constant tearing that may not require surgery. An inflammation of the eyelid or blepharitis is a common cause of tearing. Treating the inflammation can relieve watering eyes and does not usually require surgery.

If you have problems with constant tearing, schedule an exam and consultation with an oculoplastic & reconstructive surgeon that can diagnose your condition and offer treatment solutions. If surgery is needed, an experienced oculoplastic surgeon can perform the procedure to give you relief from your eye tearing.

Temporary vs Permanent Lip Augmentation

Lips are the outline of your smile, the pout when you’re sad, and an important part of your facial appearance. Lips that are full are equated with sensuality and youthful attractiveness, but not everyone has the plump, defined lips they prefer. Cosmetic treatments can help add volume to lips either temporarily or permanently. Here are the differences between the options available if you are considering lip augmentation.

Temporary Lip Volume

There are two main options to temporarily add volume to your lips: dermal fillers and fat injections. Dermal fillers can be injected to add volume to lips for anywhere from six months to over a year. Fillers can plump the lips and smooth lines and wrinkles around the mouth. Fat injections adds your own transferred fat to thicken lips, but it only lasts about six months. Both options need to be repeated to maintain the results.

Permanent Lip Enhancements

For permanent changes to your lips, plastic surgery can be performed. To add volume, implants or fat grafting can be performed to permanently augment the lips. Surgery can also be used to create a more pronounced Cupid’s bow or change the shape of the lips. The results will not go away, so repeated procedures are not needed to keep the appearance.

Temporary cosmetic procedures are a great way to “try on” more volume for your lips. But, if you want to change the shape or get long-lasting volume, plastic surgery is the best option. Experienced facial plastic surgeons can offer both procedures to help you get the lips you desire, whether you want to try a temporary filler or undergo permanent cosmetic surgery.

Are You Ready to Remove an Unsightly Birthmark?

Many people are born with birthmarks that can mar their appearance. Port wine and hemangiomas are common on the head and neck, making them very visible and difficult to hide. If you have a birthmark that makes you self-conscious of your appearance, there are options for removal. Laser skin treatments performed by an experienced plastic surgeon can fade away these skin discolorations to help improve your self-confidence.

How Does Laser Treatments Remove Birthmarks?

Laser skin treatments are used for many different cosmetic purposes. Depending on the laser used, treatments can help improve skin texture, fade discolorations, stop hair growth and even minimize wrinkles. The lasers used for birthmark removal focus energy that target the blood vessels that cause vascular birthmarks. The blood vessels and darker pigmented skin cells are destroyed, revealing lighter skin with less noticeable discoloration.

Each birthmark may require different types and frequency of laser treatments for removal. It is important to have a plastic surgeon that can customize the treatment to ensure the best results for your birthmark removal procedure. When done correctly, red or pink vascular birthmarks can be faded drastically, making them less conspicuous. The level of removal depends on the birthmark, but most can be lightened, and the skin smoothed with the use of laser skin treatments.

If you have a vascular birthmark that you want removed or faded, contact an experienced facial plastic surgeon that offers laser treatments for port stain or hemangioma removal. The treatments are not painful and can offer effective reduction of red or pink birthmarks. You deserve to feel confident in your appearance and if removing a birthmark can achieve that confidence, it is a worthwhile investment.

Options for Reducing a Double Chin

Excess fat under the chin and on the neck can create the appearance of a double chin. Many people have extra fat under the chin, even if they are not overweight. This can make the face look chubby and reduce definition of the chin and jaw. There are two main solutions for reducing the appearance of a double chin: liposuction and Kybella injections. Here are the differences in the procedures for those who may be looking for options to reduce the look of a double chin.

Liposuction

For permanent, targeted fat reduction, liposuction can be used to remove fat cells. Liposuction can remove fat pockets from both under the chin and in the neck area. In most cases, a compression garment is worn for a few days after the procedure to help the skin and tissue reform and tighten. Once the swelling and bruising subsides, the results will be noticeable, usually within two weeks.

Kybella

To destroy fat cells without surgery, Kybella injections can be used for reduction of a double chin. Kybella dissolves fat cells, which are absorbed by the body. It can take more than one treatment of Kybella to get the results desired, usually a month or more apart. While Kybella is less invasive, it can only reduce fat under the chin, not in the neck area. The results are subtler and can take longer to achieve versus liposuction.

Both options can be beneficial for enhancing the definition of the chin and reducing fat. To determine which is best for you, contact a plastic surgeon that offers both at their clinic. They can perform an exam and explain the differences for achieving the results you desire based on your physical attributes.
