Acne Scar Removal

Acne is bad enough, but one of the worst things is the scarring that often occurs as a result of moderate to severe acne.  This scaring, which is permanent unless treated, can impact a person’s confidence and self-esteem for years.  Advances in the plastic surgery field have made effective acne scar treatment possible.  Depending upon the severity of the scarring, treatment options include several types of chemical peels, various laser treatments and localized filling of the scar depressions.

Patients with mild to moderate acne scars often respond well to chemical peels or Laser Genesis treatment.  The number and type of chemical peels depends on the depth and extent of the scarring, but in most cases, a series of moderate to intense peels, is required to smooth out the scarring.  Laser Genesis treatment is also an effective treatment that is none-invasive and requires no downtime.  It works by generating heat on the dermal layer of the skin, which encourages the formation of collagen, that smoothes out the scarring.  In most cases, 6 treatments with the laser will be required to see the maximum results.

Moderate to severe acne scarring usually responds best to the Cutera Pearl Fusion laser treatment, which is a semi-ablative and intense laser treatment that works on the dermal layer of the skin.  Often optimal results a achieved in a single treatment, but due to the intensity of the treatment, patients need between 10-14 days to completely heal.

The last option is for the surgeon to inject a filler agent into the scar in order to “fill” the scar.  However, this is usually done on specific deep scars, where the chemical or laser treatments did not eliminate all of the scarring.

Earlobe Repair Surgery

Having your ears pierced is one of the most common beauty enhancement in the world. Both men and women are at risk for stretching, tearing, and scarring. Heavy earrings and other jewelry attached at the ear can cause the earlobes to be damaged. With severe damage or tearing of the earlobe, people who desire to continue wearing earrings will not be able to with out repair.

Most earlobes can be correctively repaired using delicate surgical repair techniques. Earlobe repair surgery is able to be done in the office as an out patient procedure. A surgeon will use local anesthesia to numb the earlobe before the procedure is started.

In order to repair the earlobe, the parts of the tear that have begun to heal will have to be removed. Your surgeon will want “fresh” skin to work with in order to avoid scar tissue building up after the repair. Your doctor will sew up the torn lobe with either a straight line or a zigzag sewing technique. The technique that will be be used will determined prior to the surgical repair. The specific location of the tear and the anatomy of the earlobe will help to make that decision. Fine suture threads will be used to minimize scaring and to support the repair as it heals.

Once you leave the doctor’s office, a prescription for an antibiotic ointment will be given to you. The ointment will be applied at home for a few days to ensure the area stays clean and free from infection. Most earlobe repair surgeries result in a very visible scar. It is recommended that patients wait a minimum of 8 weeks, but the earlobe can be pierced again. Patients are given caution to avoid heavy and large ear jewelry to avoid re-injury to the earlobe.

Chin Implants

The face is one of the most personal as well as the most public places on our bodies. The face is personal as it reflects who each person is, but it is also incredibly public because our face is how people recognize each of us. If a person is self conscious about the appearance of her face, how she portrays herself can be insecure and cause her to come across in an unwanted manner. Chin implants are done to build a better profile in forming the chin height and roundness. With a better profile, the facial structure is balanced and more attractive.

Many times a rhinoplasty surgery (nose job) is performed at the same time as a chin implant in order to balance the proportions of the face. Chin implant surgery involves placing synthetic materials deep under the tissue and onto the underlying bone. Most surgeries are performed through incisions made inside the mouth, however some are done from a small incision under the chin. A pocket is created at the tip of the chin and an implant is placed inside the pocket. The chin will be supported with tape for several days to decrease swelling and prevent build up of fluid.

Chin implants are one of the most successful surgeries in terms of patient approval. Most people are pleased with their decision to have facial contour procedures such as chin implants. In consulting with their surgeons, patients are able to design the facial proportions that they desire. With good planning and communication between the doctor and patient, the desired outcome is achievable.
