Steps for Preparing for Plastic Surgery

Deciding to have plastic surgery is a major decision, especially surgeries that will require a few weeks of recovery after the procedure. While you may look forward to seeing the results and having more confidence in your appearance, your immediate focus should be on healing from your surgery. There are many things you can do before your surgery to help make your recovery go smoother. Here are some steps to take before your surgery to prepare you for the recovery time ahead.

Make Sure You Have Time to Recover

For major procedures like facelifts, rhinoplasty or tummy tucks, you want to ensure you have the time needed to recover. Take time off from work and other obligations – you will need to stay home and rest. If you have pets or kids that need care, you will need to have help to ensure they are cared for while you heal.

Prepare Your Home

You need to have everything you need for a week or longer in your home. Stock your fridge and pantry to get everything you need for the next few weeks. Choose some easy snack items for the day or two after you come home. You will also want to have the medications and care supplies that are recommended by your plastic surgeon.

Avoid Blood Thinners

Your plastic surgeon will go over what to avoid before your surgery. Often this will include not using aspirin or NSAIDS for a week or more before surgery and not drinking alcohol.

Plan ahead to ensure you can focus on recovering after your plastic surgery. Doing too much during recovery can lead to complications that you want to avoid. Talk to your plastic surgeon to learn more about what you can do to be ready for your life-changing procedure.
