Hair Replacement Surgery for Women

Hair loss is common for both genders, yet it can be more traumatic when it comes to self-esteem and confidence for women. While men may not enjoy losing hair – it is frustrating for both genders – the emotional toll for women tends to be greater. Thinning upon the top of the scalp is the most common type of female hair loss, creating noticeable bald patches that are difficult to hide. Hair replacement surgery can offer relief, giving women with this condition back their confidence and improving their self-esteem.

Follicle Unit Transfer or Extraction Surgery

Depending on the type of hair loss or the extent of thinning, either follicle unit transfer (FUI) or follicle unit extraction (FUE) can be used in hair replacement surgery for women. These methods are an improved medical option compared to previous strip transplants that involved larger incisions and more stitches. The individual hair follicles can be harvested from other areas of the scalp and transplanted to the thinning areas, but less scarring occurs, and the recovery time is quicker than outdated hair transplant methods.

Another advancement in hair transplant surgeries is the use of platelet-rich plasma or PRP. Extracting plasma from the patient’s own blood through a centrifuge can help improve the healing process. PRP is injected into the surgical sites, helping heal the wounds to the scalp quicker and stimulating hair growth.

Hair loss and thinning can be devastating for women, but it is not without treatment options. FUE and FUI hair replacement surgeries can offer a solution that can create natural, thicker hair and restore a woman’s self-confidence in her appearance. This medical procedure is available through top plastic surgeons in the country, giving many women a chance to restore their beautiful hair and look their best at any age.

Enhancing Hair Growth with PRP Injections

Thinning hair or hair loss affects many men and women, impacting their appearance and self-confidence. While there are surgical options for certain types of hair loss or topical medications, these treatments are not right for everyone.  A promising new option for increasing hair growth is plasma-rich platelet (PRP) injections. This non-invasive, non-surgical treatment has been shown effective in enhancing hair growth for some people struggling with thinning hair.

Why PRP for Hair Loss?

PRP has been used in many medical and cosmetic applications to improve cell growth and rejuvenation in live tissue. The concentrated plasma contains elements that stimulates stem cells to repair skin and tissue. The plasma is removed from the patient’s blood through a centrifuge. Since it is not a foreign substance, there is no concern about poor reactions or rejections of the plasma when used in medical treatments.

For hair loss, PRP injections are used to help rejuvenate the hair follicles in those who have hair follicle miniaturization. The concentrated plasma can help the stem cells in the hair follicles repair and regenerate tissue. The procedure involves injections in the scalp of PRP about an inch or so apart. The scalp is numbed first, so there is no discomfort during the treatment.

For many, PRP hair growth injections may help improve their hair thickness and restore a fuller head of hair. Both men and women can benefit from PRP treatments, without the risk of side effects from medications or the need for surgery. This treatment is available through some plastic surgeons, who can complete an exam and determine whether PRP injections could be an option for enhancing hair growth in the individual.
