3 Reasons More Men Are Opting for Eyelid Surgery

Facial plastic surgery is becoming more popular with men as the male population embraces their desire to look more attractive and youthful. Eyelid surgery is amongst the most popular of facial plastic surgeries, with over 200,000 performed in the U.S. in 2018. There are more men opting to undergo blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery than ever before and here are three reasons why.

  1. Professional reasons. It is a competitive market for professionals and many older men are competing against younger men for the same positions. Some men are striving to retain a more youthful, energetic appearance to compete against their younger rivals in the workplace. Reducing eye bags that come with age can be a strategic move to climb the corporate ladder.
  2. Social self-confidence. Men want to look attractive and it is not uncommon for a man in his forties, fifties or beyond to find themselves single. Reducing drooping eyelids or eye bags can make a man look more youthful and attractive to potential partners when they are re-entering the dating scene.
  3. Improved vision. Function can be an excellent reason for eyelid surgery. Not only can sagging skin on the upper eyelid make you look tired and older, it can interfere with vision. Men wanting to see better and look more like their younger, energetic self can achieve both with an upper eyelid lift.

Gone are the days when plastic surgery was considered for women only. Men who want to look their best and retain a more virile, attractive and youthful appearance as they get older can opt to use cosmetic procedures like blepharoplasty to get the look they desire.

Rejuvenating Droopy or Puffy Eyes

Your eyes say so much about you, whether you want them to or not. When eyes look puffy or the upper eyelid droops, they send the message that you are tired, old or both. Perpetual puffy or droopy eyes are often caused by changes in the skin from aging, which can be remedied with certain cosmetic procedures. There are both surgical and non-surgical rejuvenation options that can give your eyes a refreshed look.

Dermal Fillers for Drooping Eyes

As the skin loses elasticity and fat under the skin, it can sag and wrinkle. The thin, delicate skin around the eyes is very prone to this aging change. The loss of collagen and fat in the upper and lower eyelid skin can allowing sagging. When this change is slight, dermal fillers can be a non-surgical solution. With the right facial filler, volume can be added under the skin to lift it back into a more youthful firmness, removing wrinkles and sagging that cause droopy upper eyelids and bags under the eyes.

Blepharoplasty or Eyelid Lifts

For more pronounced drooping or puffiness of the eyes, plastic surgery may be needed to achieve more youthful, energetic eyes. Blepharoplasty or an eyelid lift can be used on the upper, lower or both eyelids to rejuvenate their appearance. Small, discrete incisions are used to remove excess skin and elevate tissue. This can tighten and firm the eyelids for refreshed, awake eyes that look years younger.

If your eyes are making you look tired when you still feel energetic, consider visiting an experienced facial plastic surgeon to explore your options. You deserve to feel confident in your appearance at any age.

5 Tips for Younger Looking Eyes

Have you ever noticed that the one way you can recognize someone you have not seen in decades is by looking at their eyes? Their hair may thin, the body shape fluctuates and the facial structure changes, but the eyes are still the same. The only problem is the skin and tissue around the eyes – that too changes with age. If you want to preserve this important feature and keep your eyes looking youthful, here are five tips for younger looking eyes.

  1. Darken or thicken lashes and brows. Especially for women, thinner brows and eyelashes can make eyes look older. Consider cosmetic treatments and cosmetics that thicken or darken lashes and brows for a more youthful appearance.
  2. Reduce puffiness. Putting cucumber slices or wet tea bags on your eyes can reduce puffiness that make your eyes look tired and older.
  3. Consider Botox. If crow’s feet are appearing around the eyes, talk to a plastic surgeon or med spa about Botox treatments to diminish wrinkles.
  4. Dermal filler injections. Dermal fillers can be used to add volume under the skin around the eyes. This can help reduce eye bags, wrinkles or fill sunken temples, all of which can make your eyes look younger.
  5. Eye lift surgery. If the skin and tissue on the upper or lower lids is sagging, it may require surgery to remove excess skin and lift the lids to a more youthful position.

Do not let your most unique features lose their youthful vitality. Take care of your eyes and use these tips to help them retain their youthful appearance – for cosmetic treatments, seek the care of an experienced facial plastic surgeon that specializes in ocular surgeries and procedures.

Are Your Eyes Making You Look Tired?

Regardless of how you feel, if your eyes have bags underneath them or the upper eyelids droop, you can look like you didn’t get any sleep the night before. Depressions under the eyes create a shadow that is common when you are tired, but often this is occurs when the skin sags or the fat tissue on the upper cheek shifts downward. The upper eyelid skin and tissue can sag, giving the eyes a hooded look that can also make you look sleepy. If you want to look as energetic and youthful as you feel, there are cosmetic options to combat tired eyes.

Eyelid Lifts

One of the most direct approaches to give the eyes a more awake appearance is blepharoplasty or an eyelid lift. On the bottom eyelid, the skin and tissue can be elevated, and excess skin/fat removed to eliminate eye bags; on the top eyelid, the excess skin and fat can be removed to “open” the eye. Either one or both these procedures can help dissipate the tired look from the eyes and make the patient look younger as well.

Upper Cheek Enhancements

If the upper cheek has lost fat or the fat has sagged, it can cause the appearance of bags under the eyes. Replacing the fat that was lost or lifting the fat/tissue to the upper cheek area can reduce eye bags. Fat transfers, dermal fillers or upper cheek implants can be used, or a cheek lift, depending on the patient’s cheek structure and whether they want a surgical or non-surgical approach.

If you are tired of your eyes making you look exhausted or older, schedule a consultation with a qualified facial plastic surgeon or oculoplastic surgeon to discuss the many options to reduce eyebags and drooping on the eyelids to give you a more energetic look.

How to Look Years Younger

The fountain of youth is only a myth, or is it? More and more you see celebrities and other famous personalities that seem to have found the fountain of youth. Men and women in their fifties, sixties and older are looking better than ever. The secret most likely is not a pool of water but a talented plastic surgeon.

Years ago, when someone chose to have plastic surgery to combat age, it could be obvious. The facelift – elevating sagging skin around the midface, mouth, jaw and neck – has been used for decades, but with varying results. Older techniques could leave the patient looking “overdone” or artificial. However, the surgery options available now are subtle but effective, looking more natural.

Surgical options to help you look younger still include the facelift, but in many different variations and with improved techniques. “Mini” facelifts can be performed to only address the midface region or full facelifts can eliminate sagging throughout the face. Instead of only elevating the skin, which can appear “fake” and quickly revert, advanced facelifts elevate the muscle and tissue under the skin. This creates a more natural appearance that lasts for years longer than traditional facelifts.

Other surgical and non-surgical options to turn back the hands of time include:

  • Brow lifts
  • Eye lifts
  • Dermal fillers
  • Botox
  • Dermabrasion, chemical peels and laser therapy

Slowing the aging process is possible, especially if you have a talented plastic surgeon. Many people begin in the late thirties or early forties with non-surgical options to keep their skin and face looking youthful, choosing surgical methods once aging affects the muscles and tissue under the skin.

If you are interested in learning more about how to look years younger, make an appointment with your local plastic surgeon.

Growing Popularity of Eyelid Surgery

Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery has grown in popularity in the plastic surgery industry. Advanced medical technology and methods have made this delicate procedure safer, more effective and natural-appearing, increasing the number of surgeries performed each year. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, eyelid surgery has become the second most popular facial plastic surgery, only surpassed by rhinoplasty in 2017. Here are some of the reasons so many people are pursuing eyelid surgery.

Upper Eyelid Lift

When the skin and tissue on the upper eyelid sag, it can make the person look older, sad and tired. Upper eyelid lifts can rejuvenate the eyes and face, even improve vision for some people if the skin is interfering with their eyesight.

Asian or Double Eyelid Surgery

Some people of Asian descent are born without the crease or double eyelid. Asian or double eyelid surgery can add the crease on the upper eyelid that can change the shape and overall appearance of the eye. The result can be eyes that are rounder and with more options for adding eye makeup.

Lower Eyelid Lift

When the lower eyelid sags or the tear troughs become noticeable, it creates tired, aged eyes. The skin and fat shifts downwards, creating bags under the eyes that never go away, even with enough rest. Lower eyelid lifts remove excess skin and fat under the eyes and tighten the skin for a rested, more youthful appearance.

The eyes are one the first features people notice, and one of the most affected by aging. It makes sense that this area is becoming more popular when it comes to enhancements through plastic surgery. If you are considering eyelid surgery, make sure to choose an experienced oculoplastic surgeon for your procedure for the best results.

Eyelid Lift and Rejuvenation Without Surgery

One of the most noticeable features that show your age is your eyes. Fine lines and crow’s feet appear from many years of smiling, laughing and squinting. The eyelid skin can sag, making you look tired and older. Eyelid lift surgeries are one option, but not everyone wants plastic surgery. There are treatments that can create similar benefits to an eyelid lift, without the surgery, making your eyes look more youthful and energetic, including CO2 laser resurfacing.

Laser Treatments for a Non-Surgical Eyelid Lift

When you want to diminish fine lines around the eyes and give the skin on the eyelids a lift, laser resurfacing can be a great option. While it will not remove excess skin or fat like a surgical lift, it can be used as a pre-emptive strike against aging eyes. CO2 laser resurfacing can help tighten the skin around the eyes, helping reduce sagging and wrinkles, while helping stimulate collagen and elastin production for younger looking skin.

Laser resurfacing for a non-surgical eyelid lift is a non-invasive procedure which can usually completed in less than an hour. While some people only need one treatment, others may have a second laser session six or twelve months later for the best results. There is some recovery time while the skin heals, but much less than surgery.

If you want to bring a more youthful appearance back to your eye area without surgery, consider learning more about eyelid laser resurfacing. Contact your local oculoplastic surgeon to schedule a consultation to determine if you are a good candidate for this procedure. You can have younger, energetic looking eyes with minimal downtime in as little as one treatment.

Top 3 Facial Plastic Surgeries Are Life Changing

There are cosmetic surgeries that are done for personal preference and there are those that can change a person’s life. Deciding to undergo facial plastic surgery is a big decision, but for some, it can have a transforming impact on more than just their appearance. While everyone has the right to want to look their best, there are those that have deformities that affect their self-confidence and even their health. Here are the top three facial plastic surgeries that can be life-changing for the recipients.

Rhinoplasty

Not all “nose jobs” are performed to only change the size or shape of the nose. Many people have a deviated septum that can cause breathing problems, chronic sinus issues, nose bleeds and snoring. Others have a nose valve that has collapsed or a fractured nose that impacts breathing. Rhinoplasty in these circumstances can help improve the health, and the appearance, of the patient.

Blepharoplasty

When the eyelids droop, become puffy or sag, they can make the person look tired, sad or older. It can also impede their vision. Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery can remove fat deposits and excess skin that can impact the appearance and eye sight of the individual. This can make them look more awake, energetic and younger, while improving their vision.

Ear Reconstruction Surgery

Deformed or injured ears can make a large impact on a person’s appearance and self-confidence. It can also impact the hearing, depending on the deformity. Otoplasty or ear reconstruction surgery can change the appearance of the ear, even restoring an ear with cartilage grafting. This procedure can be life-changing in many ways, improving the quality of life for the patient.

Facial plastic surgery can have an enormous impact on a person’s life, whether it is done for medical or aesthetic purposes, or both. It is important to find an experienced plastic surgeon that specializes in facial reconstruction surgeries to get the best results.

Blepharoplasty Surgery

While not many people will immediately know what blepharoplasty surgery is, just about everyone is familiar with the term “eyelid lift”, which is the common name for this cosmetic surgical procedure.  One of the visible aspects of the aging process is the build up of fat and excess skin around the eyes, which gives people tired and sad appearance. This procedure, which is one of the most common of all cosmetic surgeries being performed in the United States, can provide dramatic results in reducing the first signs of aging!

During the procedure, the highly trained cosmetic facial plastic surgeon will remove the excessive skin, which is know as dermatocholasis, as well as the excessive amount of fat, which is known as fat pseudoherniation, from the eyelids.  The procedure is relatively pain free and can be done either under either a local anesthesia or under sedation in either the Doctor’s office, a surgery center or a hospital operating room.

During the procedure, which usually takes less than 2 hours, the surgeon will take care to make the incisions in the natural creases of the upper and lower eyelids, where the incision will be virtually invisible once healed. One of the things that the surgeon will be careful about is not to take too much fat out of the lower eyelids, because if the fat removal is too aggressive, a hollowed sunken appearance of the eyes will occur.

Often the procedure can be combined with either a brow lift or another procedure, but the surgeon will make their recommendations during the initial consultation based upon their experience and training.  The best news is that the recovery from the procedure is 3-5 days!

An initial consultation with a qualified surgeon is the first step in taking 10 years off of the appearance of your face!

Eye Lid Lift (Blepharoplasty)

Tired of looking tired?  Your eyes help shape your face, and give an overall impression of you.  As we age, our eyes are the first place that shows the aging process.  Skin can begin to sag a bit in the eye area, and bags can begin to form under the eyes.  These things together make your face look older than you are, and give an overall impression of you being sad, angry or tired all the time.

One of the ways to correct this is by having an eyelid lift.  The surgical name of an eyelid lift is Blepharoplasty.  Blepharoplasty is one of the top five cosmetic surgical procedures.  Correcting eye sag and lid droop alone can allow a person to look ten years younger!  Belpharoplasty also removes the extra skin from around your eyes, improving overall vision.

Prior to having an eyelid lift and rejuvenation, you will be seen by a professional cosmetic surgeon that specializes in facial cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.  This consultation will last about an hour.  Make sure to discuss with the physician any medications you take (including herbals or supplements) during this time.  Blepharoplasty is generally done with a local anesthetic as an out-patient procedure, and takes less than two hours to complete.  If you and your physician prefer, blepharoplasty can be performed in a surgical center with sedation and full anesthesia.  In either case, recovery takes less than a week, and you can plan on returning to work in three to five days.

If you are interested in correcting the chronic tired look of your eyes, contact your local professional cosmetic surgeon today.  Consultation with a cosmetic surgeon that specializes in facial cosmetic and reconstructive surgery is ideal, as these surgeons have advanced training and credentials in facial surgery.
